The Compassionate Jesus

All men weak and heavy laden
Yoked with yonder master sour
Who'd for sport increase the burden
While men labor every hour

Oh see compassionate Jesus
Full of glory and of grace
See what love He sheds upon us
The light of His loving face

See the patient Savior willing
All the burden just to bear
To stop yonder tyrant daily killing
All who should the Savior near

Why do men assail the yoke
Which the Savior gives for them
As love's token are words He spoke
For a guide and help to them

All the kind Savior says is "come"
All the weary He doth call
Here is the rest and here's home
But men look away and fall

Why dear friend must you go unsaved
When the Savior died to save
Why should any soul die depraved
With such One mighty to save

His hands wide stretched are hanging loose
His voice pleads oh come oh come
Just some pray'rs for men's good use
His strong arms will bring us home
